What we don't do

Large scale development –

We’re just a couple of guys and don’t have the horsepower.

Drone, UAV, laser scanning surveys –

They call this ‘reality capture’, we know this stuff but haven’t got the kit yet. We’ll get there at some point soon enough.

Charge you for big corporate overheads –

Big corporates are often not geared towards smaller projects. We won’t be charging for layers of governance.

Talk nonsense to our clients –

Delivering on our promise is important to us. There’s too much bull in the world today and we reckon that you’ll probably agree

Our story–

We’re on a mission to simplify land surveying

We’re on a mission to simplify land surveying, offering a no-BS service that gives you exactly the solution you need – and nothing you don’t. With a long history in the corporate world of land surveying, we know how things tick. So, when it came to building our own company, we knew the pain points we wanted to eliminate: over-engineered solutions, expensive price tags and promises that fall short.

An experienced duo

Blake Flowerday

Director, Lead Surveyor

With a Diploma in Civil Engineering under my belt, I started my land surveying career in the corporate world ten years ago. For five years, I skilled up in topographic and engineering surveying, horizontal infrastructure and cadastral surveys.
Adding to this, I built my civil engineering experience, including design modelling, contract admin and construction monitoring.
With a solid technical base, I moved into a project management role, leading a team and working closely with clients to deliver their jobs. It’s here I learned that every client and job is unique and warrants a different approach. I’m all about working practically to deliver a result that’s fit for the purpose.

Chris Scott

Director, Licensed Cadastral Surveyor

I’m a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and I’ve got 23 years of experience covering land surveying, including land development, cadastral, topographic and engineering surveying, project management and larger scale development management.
My career has taken me around NZ and across the world, starting in a small land development consultancy in Waikato after graduating with a Bachelor of Surveying, and moving on to construction management in England. Five years later, I returned to NZ to join a large professional services consultancy, and learned a lot across a broad range of expertise.
After 13 years, I went back to my roots in land development where I was Development Manager for Beachgrove subdivision in Kaiapoi. I managed conceptual planning, marketing, financing, consenting, budgeting, feasibilities, cashflows, risk, programme and contract administration.
My strength is turning ideas into reality. I like to see an opportunity and make it happen, using my knowledge to help others succeed. I set up Square Peg Surveying with Blake to do just that.

Questions?

Here's what you need to know –
How much does it cost to hire a land surveyor?
Ah, the $64 million question. Except that it’s not going to be $64 million (well, it’s unlikely!). Look, the honest truth is that it varies from project to project, depending on a whole raft of factors. What we can say is that we strive for a straight up approach that keeps costs down. We’re happy to have a good chat with you (free of charge) about your project and provide you with either an hourly rate or a quote, so you know what to expect from the get-go.
Do I need a Building Location Certificate?
Yeah, you may well need one to satisfy your Building Consent, if your building is close to the boundary, for instance. Give Blake a call on 027 252 7939 and we can talk it through with you.
Can I subdivide my property?
This is going to depend on the designated zoning of your property on the local council’s district plan, the size and shape of your property, whether you intend to keep any of the existing buildings on the property, and whether you intend to build on the site/s at the time of subdividing. Most councils across NZ require a Resource Consent for any type of subdivision. If it’s something you’re thinking about, give Chris a call on 027 207 0912 and we can walk you through the process.
